My Philosophy on Life
Positive encouragement goes 1000 times further than negative reactions. Catch a person's attention by telling them what they are doing well, and they will listen to the information that follows. As human beings, we like to know we are doing things well and with every positive remark, our confidence strengthens. When a person feels confident, they are capable of almost anything. When given negative feedback, they will feel attacked and immediately shut down. If the positive remarks comes first, then the redirection that follows will be accepted with an open mind. This is true for students, co workers, friends, family, etc.
My Philosophy for the Classroom
My goal as a teacher is for students to leave my class knowing how to be healthy individuals without the assistance of a teacher or a personal trainer. I believe that physical education has historically been considered a class that simply gets students involved in various activities for one hour a day, without teaching them the tools they need to be able be healthy on their own. Being involved in activity is an important component of teaching physical fitness, however providing students with the tools to know how to live a health life is the most valuable piece.
